Platform Overview

How Ember works

Ember replaces the first-round interview with an AI voice system that screens, scores, and reports on every candidate — so your team only meets the best.

The interview process

1
You create a role

Sign up, create a job role, and use AI to generate a comprehensive job description. Ember uses this to tailor interview questions specifically for the position.

2
Generate an interview link

With one click, Ember creates a unique interview link for each candidate. Send it by email, embed it in your ATS, or automate it via Zapier. No scheduling required.

3
Candidate takes the interview

The candidate opens the link on any device — desktop or mobile. Ember introduces itself, explains the process, and asks for consent before starting. The interview runs entirely via voice: Ember asks questions, listens to answers, and responds naturally. No scripts, no rigid flows.

4
Ember scores the interview

Within 30 seconds of the interview ending, Ember analyses every response using GPT-4o. It scores across 4 dimensions: Communication, Technical Knowledge, Experience Fit, and Culture Fit. A full breakdown with specific notes is generated automatically.

5
You review and decide

Log in to your dashboard to see every candidate's score, watch the video recording, read the transcript, and move them through your pipeline. No note-taking, no replaying calls.

How scoring works

Ember uses GPT-4o to analyse the full conversation transcript. Every candidate is scored on the same 4 dimensions, using the same criteria, every time. No human bias, no inconsistency.

Communication

Clarity, articulation, and ability to express ideas effectively

Technical Knowledge

Role-specific expertise and understanding of key concepts

Experience Fit

Relevance of past experience to the requirements of the role

Culture Fit

Alignment with team values, working style, and company culture

Score interpretation: 8.0–10.0 = Exceptional · 6.5–7.9 = Strong · 5.0–6.4 = Average · Below 5.0 = Needs work. Scores are a guide to support decisions, not replace them.

Video recording

Every interview is recorded via the candidate's camera and microphone (with explicit consent). Recordings are stored securely in our cloud and accessible only to authorised users on your team.

You can watch recordings directly in the interview detail page, or share them with colleagues. Recordings are retained for 90 days by default.

Data, privacy & HR compliance

Candidate consent

Before any interview begins, candidates must check a consent box confirming they understand they are being interviewed by an AI, that the session is being recorded, and that their data will be processed. Interviews cannot start without this consent. This is built into the platform and cannot be disabled.

GDPR compliance

Ember processes candidate data in accordance with GDPR. All data is stored in the EU. Candidates may request deletion of their data by contacting the company that sent them the interview link. Companies using Ember are data controllers and are responsible for their own candidate data policies.

AI transparency

Ember is fully transparent that it is an AI system. Candidates are informed at the start of every interview. Ember scores and assessments are intended as a tool to support hiring decisions, not as the sole basis for them. Final hiring decisions remain with the employer.

Anti-discrimination

Ember scores candidates only on job-relevant criteria. The system does not consider or record protected characteristics such as age, gender, ethnicity, nationality, religion, or disability. Companies using Ember are responsible for ensuring their hiring processes comply with local employment law.

Integrations

Ember connects to 5,000+ apps via Zapier. Common workflows include automatically sending interview links when a candidate is added to your ATS, posting scores back to Greenhouse or Lever, and triggering Slack notifications when an interview is complete.

Pipeline management

Every candidate moves through a 6-stage pipeline: New → Shortlisted → 2nd Interview → Offer Sent → Hired → Rejected. You can update stages directly from the interviews list or the interview detail page.

Shareable score pages

After completing an interview, candidates can optionally generate a public score page showing their overall score and performance badge. They can share this on LinkedIn, their CV, or with any employer. This is opt-in — candidates choose whether to share their results.
